How a Mic Can Spark a Movement.

Creating a movement starts by sharing a passion; and from there it's about mobilizing and empowering others to act on that shared belief or goal. A movement is born when listeners not only resonate with the message but also feel compelled to be a part of the change. They'll discuss the message with others, share it on their platforms, and undertake activities or initiatives in line with the conveyed passion. This chain reaction, sparked by a powerful message, can snowball into a significant societal shift.

One passionate speaker from history is Eleanor Roosevelt. As the First Lady of the United States and a dedicated human rights activist, Roosevelt was a master at utilizing the power of the microphone. One of her most impactful moments was her impassioned plea for human rights at the United Nations. Her speeches were instrumental in drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

Eleanor didn't just speak about her beliefs; she inspired global leaders and ordinary citizens alike. She galvanized nations to recognize and act upon the importance of fundamental human rights. Through radio broadcasts, public speeches, and her daily newspaper column, "My Day," Roosevelt effectively communicated her passion and beliefs, and in doing so, spurred countless individuals and groups to take action in their communities and on the global stage.

In today's digital age, the traditional methods of conveying messages are being replaced by newer, more efficient channels. Among these channels, podcasts stand out as one of the most compelling. They offer an intimate experience, allowing listeners to deeply connect with the speaker's message, all while multitasking or on the go. For those passionate about a particular subject, leveraging podcasts can be a game-changing strategy. So, how do you go about turning your passion into a movement via podcasts?

In my book "Dare to Share," I talk about passion. "Passions are personal. They come in many shapes and sizes. Whatever yours are, it follows that you’ll be passionate about talking about them." Indeed, passion is that driving force that wakes you up every morning, the fuel behind every endeavour. It's the heart and soul of your message, brand, or book. When fuelled by this unrelenting drive, you act, persevere, and achieve. The mic is your tool of influence to share what you have done, how you have done it and how it helps others.

Passion drives you:

From early influences that might have ignited this fire to the evolving journey it takes throughout your life, passion remains the itch that needs scratching. For some, it's a singular, overarching theme, while for others, multiple passions criss-cross the landscape of their lives, each having its significance. The challenge and the opportunity lie in articulating these passions in compelling narratives on podcasts. This enables you to reach a vast audience, resonating with their own personal stories and passions.

Step by Step Guide to Sharing Your Passion on Podcasts:

1.     Self-awareness: Reflect on your journey, recognising and acknowledging your passions.

2.     Hierarchy of Passions: Map out the 'big and little fires' of your passions, ranking them in terms of personal significance.

3.     Narrative Creation: Weave your passion into a captivating story. Relate experiences, challenges, and evolutions.

4.     Research: Identify podcasts that align with your passion. With millions out there, there's likely a perfect fit for your message.

5.     Pitch Perfectly: Approach podcast hosts with a concise, impactful pitch, emphasizing the uniqueness of your passion and story.

6.     Preparation: Familiarize yourself with the podcast’s audience. Tailor your message to resonate with them.

7.     Authenticity: Be genuine. Let your true passion speak through every word.

8.     Engage & Interact: Don’t just speak; listen. Engage with the host and, if possible, with the audience afterwards across socials.

Fire up an audience with the commitment and dedication for your cause and your enthusiasm will be catching. At first you capture people’s interest, then you draw them in with curiosity for your story, then you help them see themselves reflected in the challenges you have overcome and finally you excite them to follow you into your world or take up the gauntlet to expand on your work in their own way. This is how you instigate change in people who might not necessarily be in your own immediate, circle of influence but they are intrigued enough to listen, learn and then act.
