Breaking your story
When you find your true story, you are also likely to find your niche; a place where you are willing to take the time to become the expert. It is your zone of genius and everything flows. You overcome fear because you have a higher sense of purpose, and you are less likely to experience overwhelm and stress. It might take a while to find this place of distinction and ease, but when you do, you will fly.
The Skipping Sikh
When Minreet Kaur broke the story of her father, The Skipping Sikh, she found her niche as a journalist.
This week’s guest is Minreet Kaur, an award winning broadcast journalist who was behind the story of the Skipping Sikh MBE which won report of the year 2020. Shortlisted for media award 2021 by Asian Women of Achievement Awards, she tells stories of religion, feminism, culture, diversity from the unreported communities.
The daughter of the famous Skipping Sikh, Minreet was the person who inspired her dad to start skipping during the COVID-19 lockdown. They raised £15,000 for NHS charities. Growing up in UK in a Sikh family, she talks about the values of Sikhism and how they played out in her family when she was growing up.
Divorce used to be a stigma and taboo in the Sikh community and she describes how she came through her own depression and divorce, and helped to change her community's attitude to it. She became a journalist and decided to focus on stories of religion, feminism, culture and diversity from the unreported communities.
Thanks Minreet for your work that expresses the Sikh values of living with honesty, compassion, generosity, humility, integrity, service, and spirituality on a daily basis and for showing us that by acting in service to others we can help to care for the welfare of humankind.
