Healing with Horses
“Would you like to step inside this stable and join Milo the horse?”
This was asked of me by the gentle and beguiling Loredana Caminiti, founder of @behorself which was set up for people to benefit from the healing power of horses.
I trusted Loredana.
But I am 5ft 4” and Milo is 17 hands.
In a small stable, Milo would definitely have the upper hand (hoof).
But I was on the retreat (run by Loredana & @swish_sandra ) to learn to be braver and Loredana kindly suggested she would accompany me into the stable.
Once inside Milo seemed even bigger than his 17 hands.
But something incredible happened.
Loredana showed me how to move with him as he investigated these two small humans in his space.
Our movements became like choreography as he started to trust me, and I him.
Time slowed to a standstill.
And Loredana invited me to step closer to him.
To feel the heat of his body.
To lay my head on his neck.
To place my hands on his heart.
In that small dark place, this enormous beast calmed my nerves and helped me face my fears.
This beautiful experience was one of those life-changing and affirming moments.
I invited Loredana to come and share her work on Brave New Girl podcast.
EQUINE FACILITATED THERAPY
Listen to Loredana Caminiti talk about her journey to Equine Assisted Therapy and how she founded her business Be Horself.
My guest this week is Loredana Caminiti founder of Be Horself, a Horse Assisted Wellbeing organisation that practices the innovative experiential learning method of Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL), so that you can safely interact with horses, from the ground, and be gently guided by their intuition to unlock the blocks holding you back.
Loredana had an idyllic childhood in the mountains, living close with nature. Even though her family then moved to the city for her to go school she kept her memories of the mountains and her love of the wild.
She had an adventurous spirit and as a young woman headed off to New York, working jobs that she had to, but also making the most out of life. But her former husband got ill and that stopped her in her tracks. Nursing him back to health made her realise there was more to life than working hard and playing hard.
So she went off and trained in Equine Facilitated learning and when she moved to the countryside outside London she founded the wellbeing centre at her farm and created Be Horself. She also runs retreats with emotional well-being coach Sandra Wright (interviewed last week)
Thank you Loredana for the powerful work you and your horses do in helping people overcome their fears and embrace the true essence of who they are. Thanks also for showing us that when we open up to nature and to other sentient beings that we also open up to ourselves.
