Seeking joy.
How do we overcome our daily stresses and learn to live with joy?
If you’re interested in learning how to raise the joy levels in your life, listen to this week’s episode of Brave New Girls podcast with Sama Trinder, founder of the B-corp-certified Bingham Riverhouse, a hotel, restaurant, and members’ club with Bhuti wellbeing at its heart.
From ‘hellraiser’ to ‘joy raiser,’ Sama is a multidisciplinary wellbeing practitioner, yoga meditation teacher, and yoga therapist. Bridging the gap between business and healing, she guides us on a journey from stress to joy.
Sama shows us that by opening up to the possibilities of life through spiritual, wellbeing, and therapeutic practices, we can raise our levels of inner peace and joy, and cause a wider ripple effect in the world. She shares her inner work to inspire us to open up and explore our own.
Sama’s Journey: From Stress to Joy
Sama’s story began with the family-owned Bingham, which evolved from a bed and breakfast to the Bingham Riverhouse under her leadership. Sama took the reins at a young age, driven by a vision of creating a boutique space that combined community and luxury. Despite achieving success—including earning a Michelin star for the restaurant—Sama faced immense stress, culminating in burnout and a breakdown.
Her turning point came with a personal crisis that led her to explore yoga, meditation, and spirituality. Sama embraced these practices not just for personal healing but to reimagine her business as a sanctuary for wellbeing. Bhuti, her wellness venture, became integrated into the Bingham Riverhouse, offering a holistic blend of yoga, meditation, nutrition, and community.
Sama’s spiritual transformation taught her that joy doesn’t come from external achievements but from cultivating inner peace and purpose. Her belief in creating a business “with heart” led to the Bingham Riverhouse achieving B-corp certification, a testament to its commitment to people, the planet, and profit in harmony.
Lessons for Your Brave New Girl Journey
Sama’s journey teaches us that it’s never too late to pause, reflect, and recalibrate. By addressing our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, we can craft a life filled with authentic joy. Sama encourages us to find practices that resonate with our individuality, making space for both stillness and growth.
Ten Actionable Steps to Raise Your Joy Levels
Practice Daily Meditation: Spend even five minutes connecting to your breath to reduce stress and foster clarity.
Embrace Nature: Walk, sit, or simply observe natural surroundings to ground yourself and enhance wellbeing.
Move Your Body: Incorporate yoga, dance, or a brisk walk to release endorphins and connect with your physical self.
Eat Nourishing Foods: Prioritize whole, plant-based meals and avoid processed foods to fuel both body and mind.
Hydrate Consistently: Keep water intake regular to support overall energy and focus.
Build a Supportive Community: Surround yourself with like-minded individuals to inspire and sustain your journey.
Practice Gratitude: Begin or end your day by acknowledging three things you’re grateful for to cultivate positivity.
Declutter Your Mind: Journal or talk through your worries to release mental tension.
Prioritize Rest: Allow yourself restorative sleep to recharge your body and mind.
Pursue Purpose: Engage in activities that align with your values and bring a sense of fulfillment.
Sama Trinder’s story reminds us that joy is an intentional practice, not a destination. By addressing our needs holistically and finding purpose in our actions, we can create a ripple effect of positivity in our lives and communities.
