Courage to trust yourself.

The Courage to Think Beyond Ourselves: Lara Raybone’s Call to our Feminine Arts

Every week I ask my Brave New Girls podcast guest how they define courage. This is how Lara Raybone founder of Liberation in Love, thinks of it:

"I think that having courage is the willingness to go against the grain, the willingness to follow our own internal alignment because individually, it's going to look different for each person and everything that we've spoken about throughout this podcast of different influences of society or ancestral lineage, all of these reasons that we could have to not trust our alignment, to not trust ourselves. I think that courage is that capacity to trust in your own internal alignment and to take action on that, to trust that you are so deeply supported by something that's so much bigger than you and that we are supported in all the ways. And if you can trust that one step, trust within yourself, trusting that one step towards your own alignment, which is going to look crazy to some people, having that trust in yourself and that trust that you're divinely supported in taking that step and you will be celebrated for it."

As Lara Raybone explains, true courage often manifests in the quiet moments when we choose to trust our inner knowing, even when it goes against conventional wisdom or societal expectations.

This kind of courage requires us to develop a deep relationship with ourselves. It means learning to distinguish between the voice of fear (often inherited from family, society, or ancestral trauma) and the voice of our authentic truth. It's about recognizing that what looks like courage to one person might look like foolishness to another - and being okay with that.

For women especially, this courage often means breaking free from generations of conditioning that taught us to be small, quiet, and agreeable. It means daring to take up space, to express our full range of emotions, to pursue our dreams even when they don't fit the traditional mold.

Developing this courage is like building a muscle - it starts small and grows stronger with practice. Each time we honor our inner truth, we reinforce our trust in ourselves. Each time we take a step that feels aligned, even if it looks "crazy" to others, we strengthen our connection to that divine support Lara speaks about.

This isn't just about individual growth - when we have the courage to live authentically, we inspire others to do the same. Our courage creates ripple effects, contributing to a world where everyone feels more free to be themselves.
